On December 13, 2019, the China Machinery Industry Federation and the China General Machinery Industry Association convened a product prototype appraisal meeting in Wujiang District, Suzhou City for the CAP1400 main steam safety valve independently developed by Wujiang Dongwu Machinery Co., Ltd. The appraisal committee, comprising experts from China National Nuclear Corporation, Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute, and other organizations, reviewed the development summary report, inspected production and testing sites, witnessed partial trials of the prototype, and examined relevant documentation on design, manufacturing, inspection, testing, and quality assurance. Following inquiries and discussions, the committee concluded that the prototype features rational design, appropriate material selection, and excellent performance, meeting all requirements specified in the development mandate. Furthermore, the development unit demonstrated strong R&D capabilities, comprehensive manufacturing processes and equipment, well-equipped testing and inspection facilities, and an effectively operating nuclear quality assurance system, possessing the capacity for mass production. The committee unanimously approved the appraisal.

The successful development of the DWMC CAP1400 main steam safety valve prototype fills a domestic technological gap with independent intellectual property rights. Its key technical parameters and performance metrics reach the advanced level of international counterparts, making it applicable to CAP1400/CAP1000 and other nuclear power projects. This achievement also signifies that DWMC has mastered the design, manufacturing, and testing/certification technologies for main steam safety valves used in third-generation nuclear power units, demonstrating sustainable innovation and development capabilities.
